This masterclass takes viewers through a comprehensive rehabilitation of a pectoral strain from the acute stage through to return to performance.
Ben focuses heavily on objective data collection using hand held dynamometry and force plate assessment techniques. This information is then applied practically within the context of mid to late stage rehabilitation and rate of force development for athletic performance.
Ben Ashworth is a shoulder specialist with over two decades of elite sports experience. Ben has worked as a physiotherapist within organisations such as:
- Arsenal FC
- British Olympics Association
- British Judo
- English Institute of Sport
- Director of Performance for AC Sparta
- Currently, Ben is the Director of the Athletic Shoulder which consults with teams and individuals from around the world including MLB, EPL, MMA, WTA and Olympic and collegiate sport athletes.
Ben's education history includes the completion of a Master of Physiotherapy and a Master in Strength & Conditioning. Additionally, Ben is also currently undertaking his PhD in shoulder performance monitoring at Liverpool Hope University. He is credited with the development of the ASH Test - a valid and reliable test that is widely used to assess an athlete's long-lever shoulder strength and rate of force development

Ben Ashworth
Performance consultant for elite teams and individuals. Shoulder specialist with a Master of Science (MSc) in Strength & Conditioning & UKSCA accreditation. “Physio-coach” with experience in elite rugby, Olympic Sports, baseball & Professional football. Consultancy & education for MLB teams based on original research in Athletic Shoulder strength monitoring developed in Premiership Rugby currently applied in MLB & NFL teams, Premier League football, Olympic swimming, British tennis and other upper limb sports worldwide.
Ben currently works as a consultant with professional teams (EPL, USA baseball) and individuals to help solve shoulder performance issues. He has over two decades of experience as a practitioner with a Masters in both Physiotherapy and Strength & Conditioning.
Ben’s interest & experience in shoulders developed from his time in professional rugby at London Wasps (2002-2005) and was accelerated through his work with the English Institute of Sport. Ben also spent years as the first team physio for Arsenal in the EPL.
The Athletic Shoulder testing & monitoring philosophy combines Ben’s shoulder expertise with over ten years of monitoring athletes in performance environments. Creatively challenging the way we use information to impact on minimising injury risk and maximising athletic performance potential.
Ben is currently working towards completion of a PhD in the area of Shoulder performance monitoring at Liverpool Hope University, a centre of excellence for upper limb and shoulder research. This work is focussing on fatigue, return to play markers and neuromuscular profiling for performance. This is an extension of Ben’s recent published work around the now well -established use of force platforms for shoulder testing developed at Saracens rugby and currently applied in baseball, tennis, rugby, MMA, Olympic & collegiate sports.
